There are plenty of tried and trusted ways to glow up without makeup.

Wait. What?

The secret to looking beautiful without makeup is self-care. You need to take into account the most important aspects of your lifestyle, diet, skincare routine, and habits. If even one of those elements is out of balance, it will affect your health and your appearance.

Use the following 11 tips and tricks to enhance your beauty the natural way.

Let’s dive in!

1. Follow a Healthy Diet

Don’t underestimate the importance of following a healthy diet for healthy skin. Remember, you are what you eat.

Ensure you eat fruits and vegetables every day. Choose foods that are rich in Omega-3 fatty acids, such as walnuts and flax seeds. You should also include vitamin-rich fruit and veg such as oranges, pumpkin, and sweet potatoes, and high-protein foods such as chickpeas, chicken, eggs, and lentils.

2. Drink Plenty of Water

Drink at least 8 glasses of water every day. Water is essential for ensuring every system and function in your body stays healthy. Stay hydrated to flush toxins out of your body. The results will be livelier, plumper skin and fewer wrinkles.

Make a detox water you can enjoy on the go by placing fresh cucumber, lemon, mint leaves, and zucchini in a bottle and adding water. This way, you get the benefits of water and all sorts of nutrients.

3. Get Physical

Exercise is good for your skin, and your physical and mental health. The prospect of doing at least three hours of physical activity a week might not sound very exciting at first, but try it out, and you’ll discover it’s a win-win situation. Yoga, swimming, running, or hitting the gym can all be fun and good for you!

Try to do some exercise every day. This will increase the amount of oxygen delivered to your skin, help your body detoxify itself, improve your circulation, and give you a good boost of endorphins that help you to de-stress mentally and physically—and, yes, that includes your skin.

4. Drink Green Tea Regularly

Full of nutrients and antioxidants, green tea is one of the healthiest beverages available. One of the amazing types of antioxidants it contains is catechin, which helps improve circulation and skin health, lower blood pressure and cholesterol, and prevent cell damage. Green tea also contains EGCG, which helps reduce fat absorption and supports weight loss.

Brew up some green tea and enjoy it hot or iced, sweetening it with honey or another healthy natural sweetener if desired.

5. De-Junk Your Life

Many of us consume all sorts of junk on a regular basis, whether it’s unhealthy foods like fast food, soda, and other sugary items, alcohol, or cigarettes. Cut down on or cut out excess sugar and alcohol, as well as oily, fried foods, and stop smoking. Your vital organs, skin, hair, and teeth will thank you.

6. Get Enough Sleep

While Sleeping Beauty is a fairy tale, beauty sleep certainly isn’t! A good night’s sleep is an essential part of glowing up without makeup, as your body repairs damaged cells while you sleep.

Get between 6 and 8 hours of quality sleep every night so that you look and feel good when you wake up. Your complexion will glow, your aging process will slow down, and you won’t need to deal with dark circles under your eyes. An added benefit of sleeping is that your skin produces new collagen, making it look plumper and more youthful.

7. Use Sunscreen Regularly

The sun’s UVA, UVB, and UVC rays are a major cause of premature skin aging. Wear sunscreen whenever you step out to block those rays from damaging your skin. This will help prevent hyperpigmentation, dark spots, and white spots. Follow dermatologists’ advice and use sunscreen with a minimum SPF of 30.

8. Deal With Pimples Properly

Pimples are an unfortunate fact of life, and sooner or later, they’re going to pop up somewhere on your face (usually when you least want or need them). When a pimple appears, resist every urge to touch, scratch, or squeeze it, because all you’ll do is make the problem worse.

Dab some tea-tree oil on the pimple or use benzoyl peroxide, retinol or other spot treatment on and wait for it to dry out. Yes, you need patience for this, but it’s worth it, as this method won’t leave a scab or a scar. If you have regular breakouts, use a face wash that contains salicylic acid.

9. Exfoliate For Radiant Skin

Regular exfoliation is a sure-fire way to achieve radiant skin. Your skin constantly sheds dead skin cells from the surface layer. This is an important part of the process of renewing itself, as those dead cells are replaced by fresh, healthy cells. Use a mild exfoliator twice a week to support this process.

If too many dead cells stay on your skin’s surface, they could end up clogging pores and causing acne, blackheads, and pimples. Exfoliating scrubs away those cells, helping combat clogged pores and all those other nasties, and helping your skin to better absorb moisturizers and serums. Choose a gentle scrub or make a natural salt or coffee scrub at home.

10. Nourish Your Hair

Dirt, pollution, and sweat can make your hair look less radiant and healthy. Nourish your hair regularly to keep your locks lovely, shiny, and soft.

Oil your hair with almond, coconut, or olive oil at least once a week. While this is a good start, it’s not enough, so ensure you also use hair spa treatments that are free from sulfates and other chemicals that can damage your hair.

Invest in a good quality leave-in conditioner or a Moroccan Argan oil-enriched serum and avoid using heat on your hair. You should also try leaving your hair in its natural state as much as possible, as using a variety of styling tools could ultimately do more harm than good.

11. Take Care of Your Teeth

Strong, healthy, and clean teeth are an important part of achieving glowing natural beauty without makeup. Brush your teeth at least twice a day with a good quality fluoride toothpaste, and floss and use mouthwash daily to keep your teeth clean and healthy.

When brushing your teeth, move the brush up and down in small circular motions. Make a point of visiting the dentist at least twice a year for checkups.
