For those living in cold-weather areas, wintertime brings cozy layers, beautiful snow and a reason to curl up under a blanket in the evening after a warm bath. What’s not quite as picturesque is the impact cold weather can have on your beauty routine — especially your lips.

From cracks to cold sores, chapped and dry lips can ruin all the progress you’ve made toward having a soft, supple pout. When paired with the other effects winter can have on your beauty regimen (looking at you, dry skin), it’s clear you need to prepare yourself for winter and differentiate both your hair and skincare routine from warmer-weather months. Especially in the wintertime it is important to show your lips some extra love and give them a little extra TLC to keep dry lips at bay.

Luckily, there’s a number of do-it-yourself, natural solutions for keeping your pout soft, moisturized and lessen the impacts of cold weather. From DIY lip masks to all-natural scrubs, you can choose the ingredients and method that works best for you.

Below are a few picks from AuraGlow of the lip masks, scrubs and treatments that will help you arm your lips to beat winter dryness. Plus, any of these make a great DIY gift if you need a holiday gift for the beauty lover in your life!

Berry Tropical Lip Scrub:

  1. Blend kiwi and strawberry in a blender until smooth.
  2. In a separate bowl, mix together olive oil and sugar until blended.
  3. Add kiwi and strawberry mixture to bowl and stir until combined.
  4. Apply scrub to lips for approximately one minute.
  5. Wash off with warm water and apply lip balm after.

TIP: Kiwi and strawberry are both proven to whiten teeth, so save the extras for a quick snack and extra beauty boost.

Green & Hydrating Lip Mask:

  1. Mash up avocado in small bowl with a fork.
  2. Add honey and combine until smooth.
  3. Apply to lips for approximately 20 minutes.
  4. Rinse with warm water and apply lip balm after.

TIP: If you add a little more avocado and honey, this can also be used as a DIY face mask to give your skin a little extra love in the winter!

Rose Petal Pout DIY Lip Mask:

  • 3 tbsp. crushed rose petals
  • 1 tbsp. plain yogurt
  • 1 tbsp. honey

  1. Grind rose petals to small pieces and pick out any large or irregular pieces.
  2. Combine yogurt, honey and combined rose petals in small bowl.
  3. Apply mask to lips for approximately 20 minutes.
  4. Rinse with warm water and apply lip balm after.

TIP: Look for rosa centifolia, rosa damascena, rosa gallica, or rosa moschata when making this mask for the best results.

Soothing Aloe Lip Treatment for Chapped Lips:

  1. Apply desired amount of aloe vera to lips before bed.
  2. Rinse off with warm water and apply lip balm after.
  3. If needed, reapply throughout the day.

TIP: If you want to add an exfoliating factor, add a few tablespoons of granulated sugar to this recipe.

Overnight Oil Lip Treatment:

  • Raw honey
  • Coconut oil

  1. Mix together equal parts coconut oil and honey until mixture reaches a thick consistency.
  2. Liberally apply to lips before bed.
  3. Rinse off in the morning with warm water and apply lip balm after.

TIP: If you’re low on honey, coconut oil alone makes a great lip moisturizer.

Below are even more options for DIY lip masks, scrubs and treatments you can use to keep your lips in the best shape this winter. Which of these will you be trying?
