I was debating with myself for quite a while now if I should even share this recipe for DIY banana hair mask with you guys. It almost drove me crazy a few times. It is practically impossible to wash out.

The first time I tried it out, I didn’t even use a blender. Just mashed the banana with a fork. Even though there were plenty tiny pieces left, I called it good and poured it through my hair.

Trust me when I tell you – you do not want to go through that! And it took me several times to learn – every tiny chunk you leave in the mixture will give you a headache when you try to wash it out.

I love natural products because they help me to reduce all the damaging stuff store-bought products are full of. But it’s not all that good for your health if you avoid the chemicals but give yourself a stroke in the process .

So, why I kept giving this mask a chance even though it almost made me cry a few times? Well, because the results really are that good. Plus, the blender really reduces all the issues down to a minimum…

Benefits of diy hair mask with banana

This hair mask can help you treat many hair issues, but I especially like using it when my hair gets frizzy, dull or just needs that extra kick of shine and bounciness. I also use it to recover my hair after I’ve been molesting it more than usual with my straightening iron.

All ingredients for this DIY banana hair mask are super hair-friendly and they can all help you get healthy, beautiful hair.

Banana is a rich, nourishing fruit whose smooth, creamy texture makes it perfect for various natural skin and hair care products. It is rich in antioxidants, potassium, magnesium, silica, folic acid, vitamin A, vitamin C, etc.

A hair mask with banana can help you control the frizz, strengthen your hair, soften it, make it flexible and more manageable and add some extra shine to your strands. It is also great for your scalp.

Milk is such an amazing hair care ingredient! It thoroughly hydrates the hair, conditions it, strengthens and smooths it. Plus, lactic acid in milk removes debris from the surface of the hair and makes the hair softer and shinier.

You can use just plain whole milk, or substitute it with coconut or almond milk for a vegan version. I’ve tried them out both and got almost the same results as with regular milk.

Aloe vera gel is one of those natural ingredients that are easy to use and combine and give great results. It nourishes and soothes the scalp, hydrates the hair, treats dryness and damage and can even help reduce hair loss.

For this mask, you can use freshly extracted gel or a store bought one. However, if you are using a commercial gel, try to find some that doesn’t contain any added scents and colors.

Plant oils are some of the best natural ingredients you can use to treat your hair. They are nourishing, moisturizing, soothing and repairing. Perfect for treating dry, damaged or frizzy hair.

You can use any hair-friendly plant oil you have on hand, such as olive, jojoba, avocado, castor, argan, coconut, sweet almond and all other nut and seed oils.

The exact measurements are not that important, you can just eyeball everything. You will need:

  • 2 ripe bananas
  • ½ cup of milk
  • 2 tablespoons aloe vera gel
  • 1 – 3 tablespoons (depending on your hair type) of any hair-friendly oil

To make this DIY banana hair mask, blend 2 ripe bananas well until you get a completely smooth mixture, with no any chunks left. Add all the other ingredients and mix until everything is well combined and smooth.

If you want, you can also add 1 tablespoon of honey for some added nourishment and any essential oil that you like to improve the smell. I sometimes add them, sometimes don’t. They make a difference, but not a significant one.

Anyways, you should get a thin, very runny mixture you can easily pour through your hair. Before washing, saturate your strands as much as you can with this mask. Especially make sure the ends are covered and also massage some into your hair roots.

Collect your hair into a bun. Put on a shower cap and wrap everything in a warm towel. The warmth will help the hair absorb all the nutrients. Leave the mask in your hair for around 30 minutes.

After that time just wash your hair as you normally would. (You may need to shampoo it one more time.) If you can, try to give it a break from blow drying and styling tools and let it dry naturally.

Use this DIY banana hair mask once or twice a month or just any time you want to show your hair some extra love…
