This amazing DIY face scrub for acne prone skin is gentle, nourishing and regenerative. It will cleanse and exfoliate your skin without irritating it or drying it out…

Taking care of an acne-prone skin is not an easy task. First, it is a constant, everyday battle that requires far more than just anti-acne cosmetics.

Second, acne can appear with any skin type, and anti-acne products don’t really work for any of them. And third – the skin covered in acne is often so inflamed, you need to be very careful about what goes onto your face.

More often than not, commercial anti-acne products are way too harsh and drying. But luckily, you can make your own natural, organic skincare products that can help you get rid of acne, clear out your skin, tighten enlarged pores and fade acne marks.

One of the most important steps in dealing with acne is a face scrub. A quality DIY acne face scrub will remove all the dead, dry skin cells, bacteria, dirt and excess oil off your face. That way, it will unclog your pores, get you rid of existing acne and prevent future breakouts.

Plus, exfoliation encourages the skin cells growth process. It stimulates the skin to renew itself and speeds up the natural healing process. That is why this DIY acne face scrub is also great in rejuvenating the skin and getting rid of acne scars and other skin imperfections.

Ingredients for DIY Acne Face Scrub

The important thing to keep in mind – though acne prone skin needs regular exfoliation, an acne scrub needs to be very gentle.

Also, you need cosmetics that will thoroughly cleanse and detoxify your face. But, it also needs to hydrate, nourish and restore your skin. Some healing properties would also be more than desirable.

With all of that in mind, this recipe for DIY face scrub for acne prone skin is one of the best you can find. It contains everything you need to gently but thoroughly cleanse and exfoliate your skin, plus it is very nourishing and regenerative.

Each and every ingredient of this DIY acne face scrub contributes to the total effect of the scrub in its own way.

Oatmeal powder

Oatmeal powder is one of the gentlest exfoliators in natural cosmetics. It gently cleanses and mattes the skin.

Oats have strong anti-inflammatory properties that soothe sensitive, irritated skin and reduce redness, swelling and itchiness.

Kaolin clay

Kaolin clay, like all cosmetic clays, cleanses and detoxifies the skin, collects excess oil and has antibacterial properties.

It helps you get rid of acne, unclogs your pores and prevents future breakouts. But, it is one of the gentlest clays for your skin, so unlike many others, it won’t dry out or irritate your face.

Honey

Honey is one of the best natural ingredients for any skin type, but especially for acne prone skin.

Honey is a humectant that attracts water to your skin from the surrounding air. That way, it hydrates your skin without making it oily. It also has antibacterial, antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and healing properties.

Jojoba oil

Jojoba oil is one of the best natural oils. Even acne prone skin needs hydration, and jojoba oil is a great way to provide your skin with all the moisture and nutrients it needs without clogging your pores.

Plus, the texture of jojoba oil is very similar to sebum, so our skin easily absorbs it. That is why this oil is the best choice for a DIY acne face scrub.

Tea tree essential oil

Tea tree essential oil is well known as a natural acne remedy, mostly due to its antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties. Apart from cleansing the skin, it also helps in moisturizing, restoring and balancing it out.

However, as most essential oils, it should never be applied to skin undiluted.

DIY Acne Face Scrub Recipe

An infographic showing a full recipe for DIY acne face scrub

  • 3 teaspoons rolled oats
  • 1 teaspoon kaolin clay
  • 2 teaspoons honey
  • 1 teaspoon jojoba oil
  • 3 – 5 drops tea tree essential oil

First, grind the rolled oats. The finer you grind them, the gentler scrub you get. Transfer the oat powder to a small glass or ceramic bowl, add kaolin clay and mix.

Then add the jojoba and tea tree oil to your dry ingredients. Mix well. In the end, add just enough honey (1 – 2 teaspoons) to get a texture similar to wet sand.

Wash your face using warm (not hot!) water and a gentle face cleanser. Apply a thin layer of the acne scrub as evenly as you can.

Using upward circular motions, exfoliate your skin, paying special attention to the areas affected by acne. Do this for 5 – 10 minutes.

If you want, once you are done, you can apply a thicker layer of the face scrub over the first, thin layer and leave it on as an anti-acne face mask for 15 more minutes. That way, you’ll get some additional skincare properties out of this “humble” DIY acne face scrub.

After that time, wash off the scrub well and apply a face moisturizer suitable for your skin type. Do this in a first minute after washing your face, while your skin is still warm and slightly damp.

The moisturizer will lock in the moisture and help your face stay matte, plump and youthful for much, much longer.
