People often use coconut oil and baking soda for teeth whitening or for DIY face masks and scrubs.

But did you know you can make a DIY coconut oil and baking soda face wash that can help you treat acne, get rid of acne marks and dark spots and make you look 3 – 5 years younger?

You can find the recipe down below…

Coconut oil and baking soda are an extremely powerful combination. Both ingredients are often used in DIY beauty products and both have many benefits and purposes.

But mix them together and they will perfectly complement each other, helping you to treat many beauty problems.

Many people use coconut oil and baking soda for teeth whitening. This is because of their antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory, cleansing and bleaching properties.

You can whiten your teeth by using coconut oil and baking soda separately, or you can combine them and make a coconut oil and baking soda toothpaste.

Other than helping you to naturally whiten your teeth, coconut oil and baking soda blend has a lot of benefits for your skin.

DIY coconut oil and baking soda face wash is a natural, chemical and toxin-free way to clean your face and nourish the skin at the same time. It is a great substitute for commercial face cleansers that can be too harsh, drying and full of parabens.

But, even if you are happy with your face cleanser, it is still a good idea to give your face a rest every once in a while.

So, you can use this coconut oil and baking soda face wash at night and your regular cleanser in the morning. Or use it only 2 – 3 times a week to detoxify your skin and provide it with some coconut oil love.

Here’s why coconut oil and baking soda face wash is so effective:

Benefits of Coconut Oil for Your Skin

Coconut oil is one of the most nourishing natural oils. It is solid at room temperature but it melts when warmed up. Since its melting point is lower than our body temperature, it gets easily absorbed into the skin.

Coconut oil is rich in saturated fat. It contains lauric, myristic, caprylic, palmitic, capric and oleic acid and vitamin E.

This oil is an amazing moisturizer that improves the skin’s natural protective barrier. It moisturizes dry skin, soothes skin irritations and keeps the skin hydrated, plump and supple.

It also has antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory properties, so it can help you reduce and prevent acne. And because of its regenerative and healing effects to the skin, it can even help reduce acne marks and dark spots.

Another great feature of coconut oil is that it rejuvenates the skin and keeps it firm, elastic and youthful. Coconut oil protects the skin against free radicals. It also reduces wrinkles and fine lines and improves the skin tonus.

Benefits of Baking Soda for Your Skin

Baking soda is one of the most often used ingredients in DIY beauty products, especially for treating blemishes and pimples. Its anti-bacterial properties can help you with keeping acne under control, while its bleaching properties can treat acne marks and dark spots.

Baking soda gently exfoliates the skin, removing impurities, excess oil and dry, dull layer of the skin. It cleanses your pores and helps you get rid of blackheads and whiteheads.

If you’re using baking soda properly (not too often and only in combination with some nourishing ingredient), in a very short time it can help you get a soft, smooth, glowing skin. Baking soda will brighten your skin, clear out your face and significantly improve your complexion.

To make coconut oil and baking soda face wash, you will need:

  • 1 teaspoon coconut oil
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda

Put the coconut oil into a small bowl. If you want, you can warm it up a bit. That way, it will be much easier to mix it with the baking soda. But there’s no need to completely melt it.

Add approximately equal amount of baking soda. Mix well until you get a smooth paste. And that is it – you got your own coconut oil and baking soda face wash.

You can use it just like that, or you can add just 1 – 2 drops of an essential oil suitable for your skin type (tea tree oil if you have acne prone skin, vitamin E oil for aging skin, etc.)

Here’s how to use coconut oil and baking soda face wash:

Wet your face with some lukewarm-to-warm water. Apply the coconut oil and baking soda face wash while your skin is still wet.

Using upward circular motions, massage the mixture into the skin and use it to gently exfoliate your face. Do this for 5 – 10 minutes.

Rinse off the face wash. You can even use a wet towel to make sure you completely removed it of your face. Pat dry your skin and proceed with your usual skincare routine.

      Hi Sanu,
      You’re more than welcome!
How many times you should use the coconut oil and baking soda face wash depends on your skin type and condition. I like to use it 1 – 2 times a week. That is enough to nourish my skin.
But, my sister uses it every day in the evening, and in the morning she uses her regular face cleanser. And that really works for her skin.
So, I guess you’ll have to try out and see what works best for your skin. Start with once a week and add until you get a result you are happy with.
Hope this helps. Enjoy the wash! Cheers…
